How to Increase Energy Efficiency in your home.

With soaring energy costs and climate change being in the forefront of everyone’s mind, creating a home that is energy efficient has never been more important.

If you are considering making changes in your home, either extending or converting, making your home more energy efficient at the same time might be something to consider.

You can benefit from an energy efficient home in the following ways;

  • By lowering your energy usage, you will also lower your energy bills - therefore having an energy efficient home will save you money on your utility bills

  • Insulated homes are much better at regulating indoor temperature, meaning your home will be much more comfortable as it will reduce hot and cold spots throughout the seasons and/or areas of your home

  • An energy efficient home is something which people are wanting to achieve now and so the resale of your property may increase.

  • You will reduce your greenhouse gas emissions by having a more energy efficient home, not only helping you, but helping the planet!

  • Energy efficient homes often feature high-quality insulation and other materials that can improve the overall longevity of the property.

To achieve an energy efficient property, you can change a variety of things in your home. You could;

  • Upgrade Windows and Doors: If you have single glazed windows, why not upgrade to triple glazing? Just by changing these windows and doors you can reduce heat loss.

  • Heating systems: Upgrading to energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, such as heat pumps can reduce energy usage and costs.

  • Solar panels: Installing solar panels can reduce or eliminate your reliance on traditional energy sources, reducing energy costs whilst also helping the planet.

  • Insulation: Insulating walls and floors can have a huge impact in the homes energy efficiency and ultimately help you save money on heating bills.

There is other simple ways to increase your energy efficiency such as switching to LED lights instead of traditional incandescent light bulbs, replacing your appliances to higher energy starred ratings or even reducing your water consumption by installing low-flow showerheads.

When you receive the Building Regulation Drawings, Zach will specify the right insulation to meet current regulations, however if you want to increase energy efficiency in your home, we can look at other energy saving products. You may find that you are eligible for a grant, as the UK is aiming for Net-Zero Carbon emmisions by 2050, to lower your household emissions but this can be dependent on many factors so research if there is anything available in your area.
